Havas has a new chief creative officer in its New York office.

Havas New York has hired Dan Lucey in the role, following the departure of creative lead Harry Bernstein in October. Bernstein—an Adweek Creative 100 honoree for 2019—also founded and led Havas’ creative consultancy Annex88. Lucey joins Havas from New York independent agency Joan, where he was an equity partner and executive creative director.

Lucey’s hire reinforces Havas’ commitment to deliver purpose-driven work across its client roster, according to the agency.

An industry veteran of over 20 years, Lucey joined Joan as its first equity partner in 2018, where he helped build up the independent agency’s creative department and led work on the General Mills account. Before joining Joan, he spent over six years as an executive creative director with BBDO New York, where he led creative on Foot Locker, Guinness and Priceline while also working on Bud Light, FedEx and HBO. During his tenure with BBDO, he earned recognition as a 2015 Adweek Creative 100 honoree.

Earlier in his career, Lucey worked as an art director at Saatchi & Saatchi and as a creative director for Goodby Silverstein & Partners.

Lucey’s arrival follows a series of recent investments in Havas’ agency culture and people. In recent months, Havas hired Grace Blue CEO Claire Telling as its first chief people officer in North America, and appointed a DEI advisory committee in North America.
