One of the effects of quarantine on Pinterest’s platform has been a 35% increase in the number of boards created each month, joined by a 30% rise in collaborative boards over the past six months.
With that in mind, Pinterest introduced several new features for boards Thursday, with the aim of making it easier for Pinners to plan and transfer all of the visual inspiration they gain from the platform into real life.
A new section on saved Pins, note to self, enables Pinners to add private notes to those Pins, such as, “Try this for brunch,” or, “This will go well with the living room rug.”
For active boards that contain more than 150 Pins, Pinterest’s new board toolbar enables Pinners to sort through them more easily and access all of the actions that can be taken on a board from a single navigation section: exploring related ideas, organizing and accessing notes and shopping lists.
Finally, Pinners can ow mark top Pins as favorites on boards by tapping the star icon in the board toolbar, after which they can sort boards by favorite Pints to make it easier to find ideas and take action on them.
Pinterest also shared some trends that have emerged in recent months.Quarantine babies: In the past six months, the number of boards created for shopping and wish lists for baby products has skyrocketed by 78 times. Home improvement: With people working and schooling from home and seeking more outdoor and cooking options, Pinterest has seen surges in boards for home improvement projects such as homeschool room design (11 times), furniture projects (68%) and small home gyms (48%). At-home workouts: Speaking of small home gyms, the platform has seen increases in related boards including workout videos (six times), gym workout for beginners (seven times) and grounding exercises (five times). Shopping from the saves to the splurges: Boards about everyday essential projects and my dream closet are both up 83%, while there has been a 70% increase in boards for family Christmas gifts. Search queries for personalized Christmas gift ideas are up 46%, while those for luxury gifts are up three times.
